A new beach restaurant is due to open in the East End next month after a two-year delay.

Details have yet to be revealed, but JAS, the hotel company that will operate the Clearwater Beach attraction at St David’s, said it was optimistic it would be available in time for peak tourist season.

A JAS spokesperson said, “We are excited to prepare the pavilion installation at Clearwater Beach for the upcoming spring and summer season.

“We have been energized by the recent changes to SafeKey travel entry requirements and group sizes, and we hope these changes will serve as a catalyst to help our economy with increased local commerce and tourism activity. .”

The spokesperson explained that the development of the site had encountered difficulties due to the impact of Covid-19, which hit just after JAS obtained the concession from the Bermuda Land Development Company in January 2020.

But he said: “We will announce more details in the coming weeks as we continue towards our planned April opening.”

The site operated as Gombeys Bar & Restaurant until its closure in December 2019.

The government has yet to provide an update on another beach concession.

Plans for the refurbishment of the beachside cafe at Horseshoe Bay were unveiled in November 2020 by Lt Col David Burch, Minister of Public Works.

But a planning application by the new developer – Horseshoe Bay Live – was rejected in December 2021.

The Royal Gazette first asked a government spokesperson for an update on Horseshoe Bay development last week. No response has been received by press time.
