Man shot at Bay Ho workplace found at Pacific Beach restaurant

A 79-year-old man was shot and killed outside his workplace in the Bay Ho area shortly before dawn today, possibly after he refused to hand over his vehicle to a would-be car thief, the authorities said. authorities.

Patrol officers reported by employees of a McDonald’s restaurant in the 4700 block of Mission Bay Drive in Pacific Beach around 5:15 a.m. found the victim inside the business, which he had just entered suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Homicide detectives determined the victim was sitting in his car parked at his workplace in the 4400 block of Morena Boulevard when a thin man in a gray hoodie confronted him and “probably attempted to hijack his vehicle,” SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell said.

“When the victim did not immediately return his vehicle, the suspect fired at least one bullet from a firearm through the driver’s side window, striking the victim and causing injury,” the lieutenant said.

After the shots were fired, the shooter fled on foot in an unknown direction and the victim drove off, traveling about a mile south before stopping at the fast food restaurant near the intersection of Garnet Avenue and from Interstate 5.
