A HUGE summer range of water and beach activities take place in Weymouth to celebrate 10 years since the town hosted the 2012 Olympic sailing events.
From the spectacular stone sculptures built in his honor to the sailing and water sports centers that dot the coastline, Weymouth and Portland are renowned for their role in the Olympics and the excellent sea and wind conditions that led to their choice.
This summer, We Are Weymouth is offering the We Are Active campaign, which highlights the wide range of activities available to visitors and the community.
We Are Weymouth spokeswoman Dawn Rondeau said: “Weymouth is a treasure trove of activities for all the family, from walks, paddleboarding or kayaking on the beach, to sailing, diving, horse riding and the bike.
“With our ‘We Are Active’ campaign, we really hope to highlight all that is on offer in Weymouth and encourage locals and visitors alike to get out and do something active this summer.”
Activities include sea swimming and paddleboarding, beach volleyball, tours with e-bikes, hiking and backpacking to kite surfing and sailing.
“We understand that not everyone wants the adrenaline rush of coasteering or kitesurfing, but getting active can be as simple as a dip in the ocean water or following our heritage trail through the city,” said declared Ms. Rondeau.
“Not only are we celebrating our Olympic heritage, but we are joining the government’s campaign to inspire people to be more active.”
For those looking for something out of the water, Weymouth also offers yoga on the beach, ghost walks, art walks and a heritage trail showcasing Weymouth’s rich history.
There’s horseback riding, e-bikes on the harbor and spectacular rock climbing in Portland.
This summer We Are Weymouth are running active events in the area such as Beach Volleyball and will introduce the Mural Art Trail through the town.
The We Are Weymouth team are keen to show all the town has to offer for those looking to get active.
After a day of sightseeing or on the water, why not stop for dinner at one of Weymouth’s award-winning restaurants, or head to one of the many live music menus.
