Home Secretary calls on Paralimni to end unauthorized beach activities

Interior Minister Constantinos Petrides called on the municipality of Paralimni to immediately end all unauthorized activity on the beaches in the region.

Petrides spoke to Police HQ and the Mayor of Paralimni about this after a number of excavators were seen on both Konnos Beach and Pernera Beach, where they were seen working in the protected area of ​​the beach.

According to a statement from the Interior Ministry on Saturday, the minister discussed better cooperation with the chief of police and enforcement of the beach protection law.

The statement said Petrides told the mayor of Paralimni that “it is everyone’s responsibility and duty to ensure full compliance with relevant laws and the prevention of unlicensed illegal activities.”

Regarding the activities carried out on the beach of Pernera in front of the restaurant Alati by the Sea, the ministry said that the municipality decided to carry out the necessary works only under the direction of the regional management of Famagusta.

The ministry statement added that at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Petrides will hold an emergency meeting with the police, district officer, environment department and fisheries department to develop an action plan to protect beaches and end illegal activities.
