A man grabbed a 9-year-old girl in the bathroom of the Surfside Beach restaurant

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) — A man is facing charges after police say he grabbed a nine-year-old girl from the bathroom of a restaurant in Surfside Beach.

A police report obtained by WMBF News says the incident happened Sunday at the New China Buffet on Highway 17 North. Officers were called to the restaurant after reporting that an employee had touched the child in the women’s washroom.

The employee, Raul Guzman, 23, of Myrtle Beach, was later arrested in connection with the incident.

The child’s mother told police her daughter had gone to the toilet when Guzman came to clean before touching her. When the girl returned to the table, her mother said she was very “distraught and upset”.

After the daughter told her mother what had happened, the mother went to the bathroom where she saw that Guzman was still inside. She questioned him about what had happened and he allegedly told her that he had touched her daughter, showing that he had touched her shoulder and rubbed his hand on her arm.

Police said the girl told officers what happened as she cried and was shaking. She said she was washing her hands in the bathroom when Guzman came in and asked her name.

Then she said that Guzman grabbed her arms twice and lifted her off the ground. She told police she tried to enter a toilet stall and attempted to leave the bathroom completely, but Guzman followed her and put his elbow on the door and didn’t take her away. let go.

The girl was finally able to get out.

Guzman was located by officers and separated from the victim and her family. Police said he spoke no English, instead providing information through a bilingual colleague. He also had no photo ID or name cards.

Police said Guzman later told them through an interpreter that he rubbed the girl’s arm, but did not speak further about what happened.

Guzman is charged with kidnapping and third-degree assault.

Online records show he has been held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $26,000 bail since Thursday.
